Water Permit Hearings Start on Monday

The state Water Management Board’s hearing on Powertech Uranium’s water permits starts next week on Monday, October 28 at 8:30 am. The company wants to mine radioactive uranium north of Edgemont, on the southwestern edge of the Black Hills. Please forward this message to your lists and be at the Ramkota Hotel (I-90 and North LaCrosse Street) in Rapid City on Monday morning.

There will be a rally at 8:00 am sharp on the north side of the Hotel (facing Hobby Lobby). The hearing starts at 8:30 in the Sylvan I and II rooms. At the hearing, the Board will decide whether Powertech can use 9,000 gallons per minute of our water to mine uranium — for free — for as much as 20 years. The Board will also decide whether the company can spray its waste water on over 1,000 acres of land using center-pivot irrigation rigs.

We need to pack the 250-seat hall on October 28th! So we need you and your friends there.  We also need people to drop in on the hearing during the rest of the week — as you can. It will be from 8:30 until about 5:00 all week, Monday through Friday.
