1st Annual Pierre Tour de Coop
Dakota Rural Action is excited to co-sponsor the Pierre Tour de Coop with PUCkR – Pierre Urban Chicken Reform this Saturday, September 21 tour from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Tour the coops between 1:00pm-3:00pm to see what having chickens is really like, and then join us at the Rilling Produce Stand from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm for prize drawings and information about getting urban chickens in Pierre!
The first 30 people at the Rilling Produce Stand at 3:00 pm will get a copy of the latest edition of Backyard Poultry! And, everyone who goes to all three coops and drops their punch card back off at Rilling will be entered in drawings for a year’s subscription to Backyard Poultry and a $25 gift certificate to Red Rossa!
Pierre Urban Chicken Reform (or PUCkR) is a grassroots campaign working to get an urban chicken ordinance passed in Pierre. The group is reaching out to the community through events and one-on-one discussions to build support for an ordinance that allows six hens, no roosters within city limits.
PUCkR is being supported by Dakota Rural Action, a statewide grassroots family agriculture and conservation group that organizes South Dakotans to protect our family farmers and ranchers, natural resources, and unique way of life. Dakota Rural Action is working with Pierre citizens on the Urban Chicken Reform campaign and organizing a local chapter to continue the grassroots effort here after the chicken campaign is completed.
